The 2018 International Gamers Award Winners

The International Gamers Award or IGA is an award specifically for the best strategic board games. The first IGA was in the year 2000 and has continued every year since. The winners are decided by a committee of prominent individuals in the board gaming community for both Multiplayer and 2-Player strategy game categories. A third category, Best Historical Simulation Game, was once part of the awards but stopped in 2008.

Multiplayer Category Winner - Rajas of the Ganges

Rajas of the Ganges is a 2-4 player economic, territory, strategy game. Players try to grow their estates and become the most powerful ruler of the Ganges. The game has a familiar feel to other economic territory games but implements unique concepts such as dice as a resource, where players won’t be able to role for an action if they don't have the dice for it.

2-Player Category Winner - Codenames: Duet

As for the second category, 2-player strategy games, this year's winner is Codenames: Duet. The original 2-8 player party game Codenames was released in 2015 and has been a popular game for the past couple of years asa top go-to party game. Understanding that, it makes sense that the Duet version has won this years 2-player category award. Codenames: Duet is the 4th rendition coming after Codenames: Pictures and Codenames: Deep Undercover. Many feel it’s is the most fun game in the series and that it is slightly more challenging than the rest.
