Exciting New Board Game to Take on MOBA Style Gameplay

What is MOBA?

MOBA is a subgenre of strategy video games and stands for multiplayer online battle arena. Gameplay involves controlling a unique character within a team and battling it out, trying to destroy the opposing team's structures. Usually, these strategy games would be made for the computer, like Dota 2 or League of Legends, but a new Kickstarter, Cloudspire, takes on the MOBA style game in a unique PVP tower defense board game.

This new Kickstarter surpassed funding goals, being 977% funded with 13 days to go. Cloudspire has four different playable races, who all want control of a limited resource called The Source. The Source is a mysterious element that makes the islands of Ankar float in the sky. Each islands respective races are now joined by a newly formed floating pangea and must go to war over control of The Source.

Brawnen: Brawnen are a race of giants that aren't the brightest compared to the other races, but make up for it with there skilled fighting abilities. The Brawnen are industrious but burn through The Source at a fast pace.

Grovetenders: Grovetenders are aligned with nature and value peace and harmony above all. Unfortunately for them, they have been forced into the war by being invaded from the other islands.

The Heirs: The Heirs are a bird race who believe control of Ankar is their birthright. They are smaller and weaker physically and must make up for their strength with training, speed, and control of the sky.

Narora: The Narora believe they are meant to protect and control The Source. They worship The Source and have become blue unstable life forms from drinking and bathing in it.

Games last about two hours and have multiple phases, the first of which is the Preparation. Players start by building structures, buying supplies and upgrading structures. The last phase of the game is called the Onslaught phase, where automated actions along with player made choices are carried out. If your fortress is the last one standing you achieve control of The Source, and win the Game.

Cloudspire was created by Josh & Adam Carlson. For more information about the game check out their Kickstarter.
